Microphone Music Visualizer

Music doesn't have to play on your computer for ProVisHD to dance to it. Switch to microphone mode and the visuals react live to the sound around the computer* - a band rehearsing, your voice, an acoustic guitar, a DJ set over the PA, or a party where the music comes from the stereo. Point a screen or projector at the room and the room drives the show.

How to use microphone mode

1. Install ProVisHD on Windows or Mac and connect a USB or Bluetooth microphone (or headphones with a mic)*.
2. Press Esc to open the menu, click sound source and switch from internal to microphone, then select your mic - a physical one, not a virtual one. Allow microphone access if the system asks (help for Windows and macOS).
3. Make some noise. The visuals follow the sound in the room - pick any of the 29 visualizers and adjust bass sensitivity with + and -.

What mic mode is great for

• Live instruments & jams - the visualizer follows what the band plays, not a playlist.
• Parties where the music isn't on the PC - vinyl, a DJ booth, a stereo: the mic hears it, the visuals move.
• Singing & voice - visuals that react to you, live.
• Privacy-friendly by design - the app never records in mic mode; it only reads sound levels as numbers (0-256) to drive the graphics.
• All 29 visualizers work the same - modes, VJ modifier keys and sensitivity controls all apply to mic input too.

What kind of microphone do I need?

The microphone mode works with microphones (or headphones that have mics on them) but they need to be on Bluetooth or USB. Choose a physical microphone in the app, not a virtual one, and click "Refresh Microphones List" if you connect it after switching to mic mode - see the support page.

How do I switch the visualizer to microphone mode?

Press Esc to open the menu, click sound source and use the dropdown to change from internal to microphone, then select which microphone you want. The first time, allow microphone access when the system asks - step-by-step help for Windows and macOS.

Does microphone mode record what it hears?

No. The app only detects sound levels as numeric values from 0 to 256 and turns those into moving graphics - no audio is recorded or stored in microphone mode.

What is microphone mode good for?

Anything that makes sound around the computer: live instruments and jam sessions, singing, a DJ set playing over speakers, or a party where the music doesn't come from the computer itself - the visuals follow the room.
